The Smith Center for the Performing Arts Opens in Las Vegas 16 Mar 2012

Two shows by Randy Travis marked the first formal performances at the Smith Center for the Performing Arts in Las Vegas. These “hard hat” performances were held for those who helped design and build the $470 million arts fortress at Symphony Park before the invitation-only opening night gala March 10. Frazier provided structural CMU, brick veneer, and mechanically fastened full dimensional Indiana limestone services for the new centerpiece of cultural life in Las Vegas. Using nearly 2,500 tons of Indiana limestone, the Smith Center merges the Art Deco and Art Moderne styles emulating one of Southern Nevada's earliest construction marvels, the Hoover Dam. With a four-octave, 47-bell carillon and its 16-story tower, the building stands out for its architecture and superb acoustics. View the opening night photos here.

Frazier Masonry crews completed 24 CMU buildings in six and half months as part of a Soltek Pacific design build project. Frazier Masonry overcame sand storms, extreme winds and even a blanket of snow. Transportation challenges, lack of onsite water reserves and no utilities did not stop production. [They] exceeded expectations by completing the project 17 days ahead of the baseline schedule. As a Project Superintendent I look forward to working with Frazier Masonry in the future.
